Democracy never was?

It was the Americans sole purpose for everyone to have a say in how their country is and was ruled. Not only that, but there is a continuous pattern of rebellion within the people because of this. Many protest have been made because the people felt strongly that their voice isn’t heard and by law they are entitled to be heard and taking into consideration. Democracy in a country is when there is an equal partnership between the people and it’s government and a mutual understanding that though the government makes the decisions the people will be thought of and beneficially progressed in those decisions.

The word democracy is a greek word meaning “people” and “rule”. Put together, having the saying “rule by the people”. It is said that once America won their independence from Great Britain they proclaimed themselves as a democratic and republican party. But was it truly ever democracy? Sure, many people had a say in what decisions were made in their country but no matter what they were still ruled over by the wealthy. Unable to be in power as well unless they had just as much money to do so.

There is no excerpt or word in the constitution or the declaration of independence that states the word “democracy”, yet many claim the America was built on the foundations of democracy. But how can that be if it wasn’t even written? It is possible that there was no written document of democratic rule because that wasn’t truly the governments ain purpose. the government's purpose was to have control and rule over everything that happens. In order to keep the mouths of the people shut and acceptable to those things they feed the people lies of what they wanted to hear about democratic rule those it wasn’t true form the start.

For example, many of the founding fathers wanted America to stay republic. They feared that democracy was for the mob to have rule over the country. Making it unstable, when really all the people wanted was a right to have a say. James Madison’s response to the founding father’s thoughts was that "...instability, injustice, and confusion ...have in truth been the mortal disease under which popular governments everywhere perished..." Meaning that the government under a republican system has been blinded and not truly seen or aware of the injustice issues and disturbance among its people that it has made.  Democracy isn’t meant for a mob it is meant for the people who actually care enough and want to be involved in the way things are regulated and authorized. Reason for them to be seen as a “mob” is mostly because of their social status. The fact that they are not at the same level as the people in power, they are not seen as an equal or as one to know any better. It is the fear that the people will actually be able to take power. Which is exactly why the fathers and the government system was and is on the republic side of the way things should be ruled.

In the monticello of Thomas Jefferson website there is a quote that states "The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not." Eliminating the voice of the lower and middle class who actually want to participate in the government and allow the rich, many of  whom are too busy with their money to give the system a passing thought. Though they are of much money means they are of higher power as well, which limits the voice of the lower and middle class even more. The more the America will stray away from the democratic values it tried so hard to convince it’s people it is  a product of.

Since it was the founding father’s original purpose to keep America divided and under republican rule as it was only explains why it has been so hard for America to be truly claimed as democratic. From the very start, even after and during the constant rebellions and riots in history America never really was rebuilt under the foundation of democracy once won independence. America’s system was just tweaked and added different things as well as rewording them instead of doing actual reconstruction of starting from scratch. It’s sole purpose will always be there and it was never democratic to begin with.
